About Atalaya Park Golf Club, Near Purto Banus
The Atalaya Park Golf Course is one of the oldest on the Coast and is ideally situated in the Benhavis district about six kilometres from Puerto Banus. There are two well-established golf courses both of which are usually in excellent condition and both offer views of the med and the nearby mountains.
The Old course is a typical parkland course and is ideal for holiday golf. It’s a very fair test of golf with no hidden surprises and there is also always the chance you will find your golf ball even if you are a way off line. Despite opening in 1968 it is often overlooked for some of the newer courses on the Coast which is a shame as it’s a good solid golf course with a par of 72.
The New course opened in 1990 designed by Paul Krings and although it’s shorter in length it too has a par of 72 and is probably a course that demands more accuracy from the tee than the Old Course. There is a good mixture of holes with five par threes, five par fives and eight par fours several of which are quite short. The signature hole is probably the par three fourth hole. It’s only a hundred and sixty-one yards but the tee shot is played over a small pond to an undulating green.
As you would expect from such well-established courses they are usually in very good condition especially the greens and the fairways are a joy to play from. There is lush vegetation and plenty of mature trees protecting some of the holes and you can see Gibraltar from several holes.
The adjoining 4-star Atalaya Park Hotel has recently been renovated and has always been one of the most popular destinations for visiting golfers.
