About The Montgomerie Golf Course Marrakech

The growth of golf courses around Marrakech has seen some of the game’s biggest names involved with building new courses and Colin Montgomerie has done a fantastic job with this course about four miles from the city centre. It opened in 2013 and has now matured nicely. It’s part of a large residential development but due to the skilful layout of the course you don’t feel hemmed in and you still have great views of the distant Atlas mountains. It used to be a large olive grove and the fairways are still lined with olive trees which helps to soften the effect of the residential development.

From what was a relatively flat piece of land the course has been sculpted to provide generous undulating fairways that make it a very pleasant course to play. There are numerous teeing grounds so you can make the course as easy or as difficult as you wish. From the back tees it’s a par 71 stretching to just under 7000 yards but played from the red tees it’s just over 5000 yards. Although the fairways are quite wide precision is still required especially with the approach shots as some of the greens are guarded by water hazards and all of them have bunkers to catch the wayward shot.

If the course is good the Clubhouse is amazing. It’s huge and as well as being for golfers it’s also popular with the local population. There are several restaurants catering to all tastes, numerous bars, a nightclub, a car showroom and Africa’s only ice bar which is a must-visit.

The golf course is ranked in the top 10 courses in Morocco and combined with the outstanding clubhouse makes it a must play venue for any keen golfer.
