About Alhaurin Golf, Benalmadena Golf Courses

Alhaurin Golf is a spectacular course set up in the hills above Fuengirola offering spectacular views of both the mountains and the sea. It is located between Mijas and Coin and the drive there is well worth the effort. Designed by Seve Ballesteros, Alhaurin is one of the most interesting courses on the Costa Del Sol and is only around 25 minutes from the beach area.

Opened in 1994 it is now well established and maturing very nicely. It is worth looking at the terrain that the course has been built on and marvelling at the vision that the designer had when he first saw the land he was given and wondering how he ever thought that he could make a golf course there. Due to its natural setting, it is by no means flat and we believe a buggy is essential to get maximum enjoyment from your round there.

It’s very much a course for the thinking golfer. The fairways on some of the holes are narrow and don’t need a driver from the tee. It’s not a short course by any means and when it originally opened was extremely difficult but over the years the owners realised that golf is not a game of attrition and is meant to be enjoyable so they have greatly improved the playability of the course. It’s still 6600 yards with a tough par of 72 and on some of the holes, the wayward shot could well disappear out of sight never to be seen again. On the way to the course, you will see several locals selling bags of golf balls and it may be advisable to stop and negotiate a price for a bag.

Don’t be put off going however as the views are spectacular and of all the courses that you play this is one you will remember. There is a large practice ground and the relatively new clubhouse offers excellent food and a welcoming drink
