About La Duquesa Golf Club, Estepona
La Duquesa Golf is one of the most picturesque courses on the Costa Del Sol with spectacular views across the Mediterranean and to the African continent. It was an inspired choice to engage one of the world’s greatest golf architects Robert Trent Jones to design a golf course on this wonderful piece of land. He has managed to make both a challenging golf course whilst maintaining the beauty of the natural landscape as the course winds around El Hacho beacon hill.
The course opened in 1986 and from the back tees it stretches over 6600 yards with a par of 72. There are several different tees to play from so that golfers of all abilities can enjoy this golfing experience. It is quite a challenge not to be distracted by the intoxicating views, especially on the short seventeenth hole which although only a hundred and forty yards from an elevated tee to a small green nestling below. Depending on the prevailing wind it can alter your club selection by as much as four clubs.
There are two contrasting nines with accuracy off the tee important on the front nine as the fairways are quite narrow and most of the approach shots are to elevated greens. The toughest holes are the fourth, fifth and sixth which are known locally as Duquesas Amen Corner. The second nine has easier tee shots onto wider fairways but also has the best views probably of any golf course on the Coast.
Situated so close to Duquesa Port it is an ideal place to play for those staying near the Gibraltar end of the region. There are good practice facilities with a driving range and putting green. It would be worthwhile spending some time there as the greens represent one of the course’s greatest protections.
